What is the purpose of the CEDA Michel Prieur Prize?
As we are happy to show our pleasure to those who create beautiful euro coins or sets, the AD€ association has decided to award each year (since 2007) the CEDA prize (Coupure Euro De l'Année). In 2014, following the death of Michel PRIEUR, one of the founding members of the association, it was decided to rename the CEDA prize to Prix CEDA Michel PRIEUR in his memory.
The issues are numerous and some of them are of high quality. The CEDA Michel PRIEUR is a prize which, in the spirit of the ADE, should reward innovation and the intrinsic graphic or artistic quality of the proposed denomination or euro object, rather than its rarity and/or heritage value.
In addition, the aim of each association is to gain new members: each new member will bring his or her own viewpoint, knowledge, vision of things... and time to advance the common cause. To gain members, you need to be known, visible and present in the media.
How does the CEDA Michel PRIEUR prize work?
It works in two simple stages:
- As a first step, the Board of Directors proposes a list of 5 to 20 coins, boxes, banknotes (or any other object in the Euro collection area, as defined by the "Euro" books, i.e. official and legitimate), issued during the current year. The list will be announced in January.
- The proposals are then put online and each member can vote during a given period. A second round may be held if the winner does not stand out sufficiently. At the end of the voting (in one or two rounds), the result is announced.

Chaque ADE a donc son rôle à jouer dans l’attribution du prix CEDA Michel PRIEUR : vous avez à élire la plus belle coupure parmi les pièces, les coffrets et autres objets de l’euro figurant dans la liste présélectionnée par le Conseil d’Administration. C’est le seul prix numismatique où le collège électoral est composé de collectionneurs, non professionnels, actifs, donc concernés au premier chef par les coupures émises par nos instituts monétaires. En clair, nous vous offrons chaque année l’occasion de vous exprimer sur la qualité du travail de nos instituts monétaires, et ce de façon constructive.

Après un coude à coude qui a duré 2 semaines et la participation de 248 adhérents, le prix CEDA Michel Prieur 2024 a été attribué à …
A quick reminder before we find out the results and the winner of this year's event:
The Prix CEDA Michel Prieur is first and foremost the initials of Coup European DheAnnée. Il s’agit d’un prix créé par les AD€ qui souhaitent récompenser l’innovation, la qualité graphique voire artistique d’une coupure ou d’un objet euro, c’est aussi l’hommage posthume qui est rendu à Michel Prieur, l’un des membres fondateurs et administrateur durant 10 ans de l’association.
Le principe de votes qui continue comme chaque année à évoluer, a permis à l’ensemble des bénévoles de l’association et à une dizaine d’adhérents tirés au sort de proposer et d’établir une liste de 19 pré-nominés. Les résultats des 8 meilleurs ont ensuite été retenus et vous aviez jusqu’au 22 janvier 2025 pour voter et élire le vainqueur.
Les candidats classés aux deux premières places se sont rapidement détachés et ce n’est que dans les dernières instants du vote que la première place a été définitivement acquise.
Félicitations à la Bank of Malta – Malte pour la 5 euro « Abeille » qui remporte le prix CEDA Michel Prieur 2024, la deuxième place revient à la Monnaie de Paris – France avec la 5000 euro « Notre Dame de Paris » et la troisième place à la Münze Österreich – Autriche avec la 25 euro « Supernova ».
Les diplômes ont été remis aux 3 premiers lors du World Money Fair de Berlin 2025.

Michel PRIEUR
Michel PRIEUR (1955-2014) was a leading French numismatist. He was Chairman of cgb.fr, the successor to Compagnie Générale de Bourse (CGB), which he founded in 1988 and which is the largest numismatic company in France. In 2003, he was one of the founders of the AD€ association (Les Amis de l'Euro).
A member of the Board of Directors since its inception, he was successively Advisor from 2003 to 2005, Secretary from 2005 to 2007, General Secretary from 2007 to 2009, and then Strategic Advisor from 2009 to 2013. Members who have attended our Annual General Meetings will remember his many contributions on various topics relating to euro numismatics.
